Where's my frickin' lake?

We don't travel much anymore. Toting two small children around doesn't make for a very relaxing visit anywhere, let alone on an extended trip. All I want is to, once a year, sit around a lake.

Is that too much to ask?

I don't think so. We've been lately going to Lake of the Ozarks for our annual sit-around-the-lake vacation. The "resort" we stay at isn't too child friendly; there's a steep hill to the lake, not a huge beach area and not much to do for the kids. Plus, it's a haul- 8 hours or so in the car.

We've been going with my parents & various configurations of my siblings for a few years. It's good because, not only does Ellie love them, they help with the caretaking, giving us a break. This year I said I didn't want to go to Missouri because of the not-child-friendliness and the long drive. Little Woogie is not a very good car traveler.

We decided to look for a closer place for that reason, also because my siblings could come up for a few days & not have to do the long drive. After much internetting (it's really hard to determine how a place might be from the web page) we settled on a cute, quaint cottage resort on Lake Delton in the Wisconsin Dells. It seemed to meet our needs, kid friendly, big cottage, right on the lake (my Dad's only requirement is that he is able to float in an inner tube for hours on a lake).

Imagine my distress when I awoke to this headline today.

So, needless to say, we won't be going. Of course the resort is still there. I don't know how relaxing it would be to sit out on the beach among rotting fish and debris, however. I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty sure it would be too late to book another lake cottage for July. And of course I feel pretty bad that my Dad won't get his week-long float in the lake.

Stupid rain, I curse thee!!!!

I'm a teacher. Apparently this means I must know EVERY answer to EVERY question in all of creation. Heaven help me if I make a spelling error. I'm also a wife & "new Mommie" (shudder). Don't get me wrong, I love my babies, but the phrase "new mommie" has got to go. It just conjures up images of scrunchies & sweat pants in my mind. Phooey.
