So it was a good fourth of July weekend. Didn't make it out to DeKalb, as we had originally planned. Sometimes the thought of traveling with the little ones just makes me tired. Instead we went out to Palatine on the 3rd for the carnival fest, heard some really horrible music & took in some rides.
Turns out, Ellie is quite the daredevil. Luckily she was tall enough to get on the rides herself, mostly due to her emergency shoes we had to purchase at Walmart on the way. She wanted to get on the Ferris Wheel with Daddy but I had to be the bad guy and say no. Have you seen the people that operate these rides? I would have lost my lunch just standing there watching her ride that. But then again, I hate heights, always have.
The 4th was spent in the hood. Now I remember why we wanted to get out of town. Had a low-key BBQ event with Jake, Maria, Cari & Jim. Just as we were putting the kiddies to bed, the madness began. It was a good solid hour and a half of shit blowing up, continually. So much so that we couldn't even talk over the noise while sitting on our porch. Now I'm all for patriotism, especially when it comes in TNT form, but when it disrupts Mommy drinking time, then I've got a problem.
Couldn't help but think, "This probably doesn't happen in Elmhurst."
Score one for the suburbs.

It happens in Sugar Grove. The difference is, things don't normally blow up here, or make any noise at all. So, when it happens, it's notable. Elmhurst might just be your perfect mid-point between silence and madness.
it was pretty crazay that night, but fun nonetheless. thanks for having us again, once again! could have been worse - you could have had some idiot trespasser fall from your roof as we did!
(she appeared to sustain only minor injuries, so the use of "idiot" is not too callous).
What would you call her if the injuries were severe?
