Bureaucracy

I was pulling out of the garage the other day when my neighbor from across the alley came up to the car. He handed me an envelope marked "Kellog Watch Offer" and said that his wife was a vegetarian and ate Rice Krispies all the time. He had saved 4 tokens from the box for a Barbie "Mommy and Me watch set". If you send in the 4 tokens plus the entry form from the box you will receive 2 matching watches- one Mommy sized and one kid sized.

I thought this was really sweet of him to think of us, especially since our contact with him is really limited to the occasional wave in the alley. Ellie is starting to get really into accessories (don't know where she gets that from), so I decided to fill out the form and send it in.

I was reading the fine print on the form, mostly to make sure there was no shipping cost (there isn't if you have the 4 tokens) and something struck me as odd. "You will receive your watches in 90 days."

Ummm... 90 days? Really? Why???????

It's not that I have a burning desire to wear this watch and I can't bear to wait 3 months for it. I just wonder why. Why does it take 3 months? Is there that much of a back-up? Could there possibly be that many other saps who saved the 4 tokens and sent them in? It's the same for rebates- most of them say to allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. Ok , I can wait that long, but 90 days... Come on! We might not even be living here in 90 days. What then, I ask, what then????

Is it some sort of conspiracy set to deter people from applying for the offer? "Oh, that's too long. I better just forget it then."

Ha Snap! Or is it you, Crackle, are you the one? Ha! I'm sending it in! And you better just send those damn watches! I'll be counting the days!

42

Today is Jackie Robinson Day in major league baseball, commemorating the day he became the first African American to play in the league.

Players can honor him on this day by wearing jerseys with his number on the back.

Several of the Cubs are wearing #42 today. My question is why aren't they all wearing it? I don't get it.

Either this kid just got baptized, or he is doing one heck of a Mr. Roarke impersonation.

My New Blog

Probably not relevant to anyone...

Our Day

To my beloved,

Six years of wedded bliss! Can you even believe it? Doesn't it seem like SO MUCH LONGER?

Thankfully, it was a beautiful day, much unlike the crap weather we're experiencing today.

I wish we were leaving for Mexico tomorrow. Do you think the kids would miss us?

Thanks for all the laughs and sweet memories. Thanks for giving me my two precious babies... I like them a whole bunch. (One more????)

Here's to at least 6 more years of happiness....

Love, XOXOXO

Laura

What I learned on Idol Gives Back

1. Miley Cyrus sucks. No really, she totally sucks. I never saw her perform before, but now I know. It's not like she just sucks a little, no no no... she totally sucks. Not that I thought the 10-12 year old crowd has the most discriminating taste in music, but I thought she'd be at least a little engaging or talented.
Nope. But she is cute, I'll give her that.

2. Brad Pitt is still one hot, steamy piece o' man meat. Yow! I had to Tivo through 2 1/2 hours of crap to get to him, but lo, it was worth it!

3. Daughtry is the name of the band, not just the name of the man. Apparently he fancies himself a little like Bon Jovi or something. There was some riveting video of their trip to Uganda. Ok, those people have a rough enough life- please don't make it any worse by making them sing a Daughtry song. They kept saying I could change a life for the mere price of a cup of coffee. Tell me how much I need to donate so that those people never have to have Daughtry come and visit their village again. Really... I've got my checkbook right here...

4. Fergie singing "Barracuda" and ruffling Ann Wilson's hair was the most disturbing thing I've seen on TV in a long time. Now why would you have Fergie singing the song when Ann Wilson was right there?

5. I still don't get Mariah Carey. She can sing really high... yep. She sure can. Yep. Still don't get it.

6. Hillbillies are real! And they live in our country! Who knew?

7. My life would really suck without Tivo.

I'm a teacher. Apparently this means I must know EVERY answer to EVERY question in all of creation. Heaven help me if I make a spelling error. I'm also a wife & "new Mommie" (shudder). Don't get me wrong, I love my babies, but the phrase "new mommie" has got to go. It just conjures up images of scrunchies & sweat pants in my mind. Phooey.
