Oh Tivo
Shouldn't you know me better by now??? It changed the channel in the middle of the Cubs game to tape Green Acres. In its defense, we were losing at the time. This is the first season in a while where I've not given up on the team when we were down by some runs. (Even 9???) Also in its defense, Devin really does like Green Acres. How sweet is the walk-off home run? Man, you have to really feel like a superstar when you pull off something like that. A-Ram-Ram, I loves him! Ellie & I hit the rewind on that one at least 5 times. (although she was singing "Go Sorry-Wano!" I was going to explain that he's on the DL and wasn't even playing, but I figured that may be too much info for a 2 year old to handle). I remember he hit a similar walk-off Friday day game homerun about this time last year also. Sweet! Not going to brag too much about the win; we very well could get our butts handed to us the next 2 games. All I know is that its been a lot of fun watching my favorite team this year, and I don't get to say that very often. I'm glad my Sox friends are also enjoying their team as well. Although you do have that World Series win to savor... so don't be too greedy. Oh Sweet Summer Baseball!
One thing I'll miss about the city
Well nobody's bought our place yet... but we're in the process of a slight price reduction so it may be soon now. There's a lot of things I'm going to miss about living here ( and of course some I won't). One great thing is deciding to go somewhere, and 15 minutes later, we're here: We had a blast on Father's Day at Millenium Park. Had a nice lunch and did plenty of splashing in the fountain. It turned out to be a beautiful day, despite the rainy start. Had some ice cream and took in a bit of the Chicago Youth Orchestra performance in the band shell area. Even had some tourists take their picture with us. Please let me know if you see our faces pasted on some Asian porn. I know how you all are into that sort of thing. No judgements... I will really miss this sort of thing. I suspect trips to Chicago from the burbs will probably take more planning than we're used to. But for now, the city is my friend. I love this town in the summer! And Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there.
I wanna play!
So we got a letter from the IRS a few weeks back telling us we didn't pay our taxes this year. Oh, and now in addition to what we owe, we also need to pay a penalty. Um, no. Did you happen to notice that check you cashed? See, we sent that for our taxes. As payment. And you cashed the check.
Ok, yes last year we did forget to sign our tax form. But this year we did! And we sent a check! Are you listening to me!?
Well, I think we have the matter "sorted out". We spoke to someone on the phone, and we sent a copy of the canceled check. I'm assuming that's why we haven't received our stimulus check yet. Have you? Here's how a bunch of people are spending their money. I'll probably be saving it for this purchase for our new home: Room & Board's Kyoto Table in Sepia w/ Wegner Wishbone chairs. How hot is this set? At $835 a pop for the chairs, it may be a bit much, but the table will be MINE, ALL MINE!!! WHAA HA HA!
Where's my frickin' lake?
We don't travel much anymore. Toting two small children around doesn't make for a very relaxing visit anywhere, let alone on an extended trip. All I want is to, once a year, sit around a lake. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so. We've been lately going to Lake of the Ozarks for our annual sit-around-the-lake vacation. The "resort" we stay at isn't too child friendly; there's a steep hill to the lake, not a huge beach area and not much to do for the kids. Plus, it's a haul- 8 hours or so in the car. We've been going with my parents & various configurations of my siblings for a few years. It's good because, not only does Ellie love them, they help with the caretaking, giving us a break. This year I said I didn't want to go to Missouri because of the not-child-friendliness and the long drive. Little Woogie is not a very good car traveler. We decided to look for a closer place for that reason, also because my siblings could come up for a few days & not have to do the long drive. After much internetting (it's really hard to determine how a place might be from the web page) we settled on a cute, quaint cottage resort on Lake Delton in the Wisconsin Dells. It seemed to meet our needs, kid friendly, big cottage, right on the lake (my Dad's only requirement is that he is able to float in an inner tube for hours on a lake). Imagine my distress when I awoke to this headline today. So, needless to say, we won't be going. Of course the resort is still there. I don't know how relaxing it would be to sit out on the beach among rotting fish and debris, however. I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty sure it would be too late to book another lake cottage for July. And of course I feel pretty bad that my Dad won't get his week-long float in the lake. Stupid rain, I curse thee!!!!
Addendum(b)
I'd like to add another schwantz to the list of bad drivers. Don't really know why I didn't think of this before & I'm not sure how to classify this. "Backer-uppers"??? You know, the people that absolutely must back up into any parking spot/ driveway they encounter. Even if it doesn't make a difference. Now yes, I know, there are times where it is beneficial to back into a parking spot. Can't really think of an example, but I'm sure there are good solid reasons to do so. I'm talking about people who always do it for no apparent reason. You know, the people that stop traffic down a row at Target just so they can back into the spot. Why??? Why??? It seems any time you would save pulling out is negated by the time it takes to accurately navigate your Tahoe backwards into that spot. And honestly, if you're driving a Tahoe, can't you already see over all of creation anyhow? Why do you feel the need to be a jag? I'm just wondering.
Alright already
Can I be honest? I hate these bastards. Why are they still around? They aren't cute. They aren't funny. The lessons they teach are marginally positive, I suppose. I didn't like them when I was a child. I checked out a few of the books from the library, and they sucked. Guess what? They still suck. I thought the only redeeming quality was that Dolly Parton sang the theme song. Guess again, it's LeeAnn Womack or some such crap. Father, Mother, Sister, Brother? They don't even have names! Lame.

I'm a teacher. Apparently this means I must know EVERY answer to EVERY question in all of creation. Heaven help me if I make a spelling error.
I'm also a wife & "new Mommie" (shudder). Don't get me wrong, I love my babies, but the phrase "new mommie" has got to go. It just conjures up images of scrunchies & sweat pants in my mind. Phooey.
